BBIT alumni write motivational book |
Two 2008 Bachelor of Business Information Technology (BBIT) alumni Rosemary Kibui, and Timothy Kipchumba have authored a motivational book. The title of the book is "Unstoppable: Achieving excellence in High School and beyond".
The book was published this month (December 2010). Why a book on life in high school from people who left high school awhile back? "The one reason this book is written is because we believe that high school is an important period in life," the authors say in the introduction of the book.
"We live in a world that values consistency in character, excellence in education, sports, and talent. For that matter, the choices you make, the friends you keep, and how you spend your time (especially in high school) will affect your future. The book tries to help teenagers make the most of their life in high school.
Life in high school is challenging. Some students have problems paying fees, most students have to be away from home, there is friction with teachers and fellow students, there is poor food in many schools, boring classes, cold mornings, etc. This is compounded by the teenage crisis.
Realizing excellence while having fun
The authors are clear: this book does not make those problems go away. No! But it inspires people to take action. It tells them how to realize excellence while having fun in high school.
The book has 10 chapters. The chapters are: Excellence - What is it? Vision and Game Plan - a map to guide you there. Values and Virtues - the torch that shines your path. Mentors and coaches - a guide to hold your hand. Teams and Friends - their importance in your life. The world of choices - how to make them. Having Fun at Study - and excelling at it! Revision and Exams - how to prepare. Beyond the Classroom Walls - the art of balance. Beyond High School - what is out there for you?
Each chapter has illustrative stories, personal experiences, things to do, exercises, points to remember, guidelines, anecdotes, principles, and quotable quotes pieced together to help youngsters make most of high school life. The book is also animated by cartoons in every chapter!
The book is about having fun and excelling in high school life. But it goes beyond excelling in exams to excelling in life. Students pursuing post-secondary education and professionals too should find it relevant.
The book is available from Naet Publishers. To get a copy email them: inspire@gmail.com Or contact them on mobile phone: +254 712 227 388. You can also get in touch with the authors at the book's Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Unstoppable-Teens/106578906060379
